About Carlos

   Carlos Garcia is a tenor trombonist based in Austin, Texas. He is studying his master's degree at the University of Texas at Austin under Dr. Nathaniel Brickens. He received his bachelor's degree in music performance at Texas A&M University Kingsville under the direction of Dr. Oscar Diaz. In TAMUK, he was in the Wind Symphony, Kingsville Symphony Orchestra, and the STTS, which is the top trombone choir. As a member of the trombone choir and the top octet, he performed at Midwest band clinic and at ITF. He is also a co-founder of The Kaizen Quartet which is an internationally acclaimed group having made the final round at ITF.

   He has gained experiences by being in many prestigious ensembles at UT. Performing at TMEA, the Long Center, and CBDNA with the UT Wind Ensemble. He has also played works like Respighi’s Pines of Rome and Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 while being in the UT symphony orchestra. He’s played at the American Trombone Workshop in Washington and at TMEA with the UT trombone choir. Since starting his master’s degree, he has expanded his knowledge of trombone choir repertoire. He also worked on his chamber ensemble skills, and solo work to further improve and gain skills to able to instruct his students.

   During his undergraduate years, he and three other trombonist Luis Cadena, Cristian DeHoyos, and Nick Castillo formed the Kaizen Quartet. This is a passion project that was created to play trombone quartets and to put our names out there. We want people who never heard of trombone to listen to us and appreciate our music and our love for it. His passion for music and his projects with the Kaizen Quartet are going to continue to bring new albums and recordings in the future, so stay tuned.

   Carlos is a private lesson teacher in Austin, teaching in middle schools and high schools. He has been teaching for 2 years and has slowly grown a studio that he loves and appreciates. He continues to expand his studio and teaches students and helps them find a love for music so that they can blossom into amazing players.
